2025년, 중구문화재단 충무아트센터가 개관 20주년을 맞이합니다.
20년의 역사를 넘어 성숙한 문화예술 공간으로 자리 잡은 충무아트센터는 세계적인 수준의 전시를 선보이기 위해, 지난해 1층 갤러리를 확장하며 또 한 번의 도약을 준비하고 있습니다.
지난해, 재개관 기념 전시로 4개국 5명의 사진작가가 선사한 100여 점의 작품을 담은 ‘Confession to the Earth’를 선보이며 주목을 받은 데 이어, 올해에는 ‘The Glorious World’라는 타이틀로 또 한 번 깊은 감동을 전할 예정입니다.
이번 전시에서는 아이슬란드의 저명한 사진작가 라그나르 악셀손(Ragnar Axelsson), 사진작가이자 다큐멘터리 감독 크리스 조던(Chris Jordan), 현대 사회의 다양한 주제를 다루는 다큐멘터리 사진작가 닉 하네스(Nick Hannes), 지구상의 가장 외진 지역들을 탐험하며 작업을 이어 가는 사진작가 마르코 가이오티(Marco Gaiotti)의 작품을 소개합니다.
이들의 작품은 우리가 쉽게 닿을 수 없는 지구의 가장자리, 태고의 신비를 간직한 웅대한 자연과, 문명의 혜택을 온몸으로 누리고 사는 현대인의 모습을 동시에 담아내는 한편, 자연과 문명의 극명한 대비 속에서 살아가는 우리의 아이러니한 현실을 가감 없이 쏟아 냅니다.
눈부시게 아름답지만 위태로운 지구의 현재를 기록하기 위해 거친 길을 마다하지 않고 묵묵히 렌즈를 들었을 사진작가들의 도전과 사명감에 깊은 존경과 감사를 보냅니다.
또한, 본 프로젝트의 가치와 의미를 깊이 헤아려 지난해에 이어 올해도 적극적으로 참여하고 기여해 주신 국립생태원 이창석 원장님께 감사드립니다. 아울러, 그 이름만으로도 든든한 힘이 되어 주시는 조직위원분들께도 깊은 존경과 감사를 전합니다.
서울의 중심, 중구에서 시작된 이 작은 씨앗이 널리 퍼져 우리의 의식과 행동, 그리고 삶을 변화시키는 계기가 되길 바라며, 의미 있는 실천에 동참해 주시기를 부탁드립니다. 감사합니다.
A new project is starting to tell the story of climate and the environment through photos.
Photos speak volumes to us. They show us the diverse realities of the world, spark debates, and have an impact. The amazing power of photos is that they can change our lives.
As a small step towards that change, the Jung-gu Cultural Foundation is holding the Climate Change Photo Project, titled ‘Confession to the Earth’. About 100 works by Korean, German, American, and British photographers will be showcased. This exhibition is our confession to the Earth. These five photographers tell stories of humanity, animals, oceans, waste, wounds, development, conservation, extinction, and survival from their own perspectives. The messages conveyed directly through the photos resonate deeply with us, without the need for translation.
We hope that our Confession to the Earth and our environment will ultimately bring about a change in our lives. We hope that these small steps will lead to significant changes. We ask for your support in joining our efforts.
